Although I’ve used this question for a long time, what I enjoyed this week when I took on the challenge, actually was not the response or reaction I got from the people I asked, but rather later on during a gemba when I didn’t ask someone the question, one of the leaders on my team did. Awesome! That’s what it’s all about. Imagine if all our leaders frequently ask this question and then act on the response?

Hi Glenn, I use the basic essence of this question to “Know the process” in a Kaizen.
Kaizen participants, in order to know the process talk to process owners/operators and ask them “what part of the process they (operators) would like to change and why”. The answers to this question become integral part of “Process Concerns” which then are subjected to root cause analysis and subsequently solutions to address them.
Solving “Frustrations of the process owners” are one of the simplest and fastest ways to improve process health.
